Car versus Mudslide

Patrick Dempsey Racing

The Bathurst 1000 is working towards fulfilling Dempsey's desires to race in the World Famous Bathurst 1000 endurance race. For those that are left scratching your heads as to who Patrick Dempsey is, ask your Wife: Dempsey is one of the most famous men in the world for playing Dr Derek Shepherd AKA "McDreamy"in the US series Grey's Anatomy.

In news that sounds almost unbelievable, Eddie van Halen is also keen to race at Bathurst. Wow, times have changed since Dick Johnson and Brockie fought it out for fans at Mt Panorama. Read on here.

I know what you're thinking, you might as well jump...go ahead and jump.

Honda 1000cc Mean Mower

Check out Honda's new Mean Mower: a 109hp ride-on lawnmower with a 1000cc engine and all-terrain tyres. This machine will propel you from a stationary position to 60mph in 4 seconds and hits a top speed of 130mph/209km/h! Read on here.

I think Honda's fantastic Impossible Dream campaign will need to be remade to include the Mean Mower...

Goss/Bartlett XB GT Falcon Racecar up for auction.

The Goss/Bartlett XB GT Falcon is being auctioned off at the next Shannon's event in Sydney this weekend. John Goss is the only winner of both of Australia's premier racing events the Bathurst 1000 (1974/84) and the Australian Grand Prix (1976). The guide price is an eye-watering AUD$300,000-360,000.

If you can't afford this one, why not get the Biante 1:18 scale model for AUD$66.00...

or one of the previous Goss/Bartlett car; the XA Falcon for AUD$54.00, pictured below:

It's over 2m long!!! Read on here.

The Golf Cart Hovercraft

For US$58,000 you can make sure you get noticed on the golf course. You'd want to make sure your first tee-off isn't a disaster after making everyone stare at you. I think these means somebody better remake Caddyshack. You can buy one from Hammacher Schlemmer.

Rodney Dangerfield's Rolls Royce in Caddyshack- previously the most outlandish thing you'd see on a golf course.

Parkes Motor Museum

As well as seeing the Elvis Museum, we also toured the Parkes Motor Museum in Parkes NSW where we ogled some stunning motors. Next on our museum list is McFeeter's Motor Museum in Forbes.

Elvis Presley's Car

Parkes NSW is not only home to the CSIRO Radio Telescope featured in The Dish, it is now just as famous for its annual Parkes Elvis Festival where fans from around the World come to pay homage to the star and celebrate his life and music. On the weekend we went to see what the fuss was about and were absolutely blown away by the Parkes Elvis Museum. It turns out Greg Page (AKA the yellow skivvy from The Wiggles) is a massive Elvis fan and has family in Parkes so there you have it- his incredible collection of Elvis's clothes, jewellery, personal documents, furniture and even his last ever car are all on display at 'The King's Castle' Elvis Museum in Parkes. Not to mention his and Priscilla's original marriage certificate and even his marital bed!

Below: Elvis's last ever car, a 1976 Cadillac Seville.

As an aside, this is one of two rhinestone gold lame suits which Colonel Parker commissioned for (and were worn by) Elvis in the 1950s. Even then each suit cost over US$10,000!

Below: Greg Page from The Wiggles has one of the World's finest collections of Elvis's own possessions and displays them in Parkes.

AutoExotika Presents: Cars 'N Coffee Santa Barbara

Karol Dalene from sunny California has sent in a clip from AutoExotika's recent day out in Santa Barbara. Southern California is an incredible destination for car lovers. Everywhere you look there are beautiful machines, both classic and modern. The thing about Santa Barbara though is it's a paradise for rev-heads...with money!

Want some more Californian Classics? Check out my roadtrip up California's Highway 1.

License Flipper

In trouble with the law? Hate paying road tolls? I've got two words for you: License flipper.

Introducing The Homer Car

Remember the car Homer Simpson made for his Brother, Herb Powell? It was the car that brought down Powell Motors. Anyway, someone with a bit of spare time has brought Matt Groening's vision to life.

Motorline BMW's X5 Ute

Even in a "ute" (pick-up truck) obsessed country like Australia, this is still pretty eye-popping. Motorline BMW in Brisbane, have created this X5 Utility.

Ritzy Ritz Red Rolls Royce

You can go overboard with alliteration. You can also go overboard when customising your brand new Rolls Royce Phantom. I couldn't help noticing this fire engine red example with huge chrome rims parked outside the Ritz Hotel in Mayfair. There's something to be said for coming in under the radar. I guess there's also something to be said for crash landing on the radar.

Apologies EPD fans, the hiatus is over! I've moved from London to my hometown of Parkes in Australia with my British Wife and British dog! So now we've settled in it's time to hit the road again with the latest car news, random pics and questionably must-read motoring madness.

Here's Charlie the Great Dane in the back of our epic* 90s Ford Longreach work ute.
