Ecurie Ecosse Collection sells for £8.8million

Dick Skipworth's collection of team 'Ecurie Ecosse' vehicles has sold in the UK for £8.8m. The Scottish team won two consecutive Le Mans 24hr races in 1956 and 1957. The huge surprise on the day was the 1960 Commer TS3 transporter with a two-stroke engine which sold for £1.8m (over $AU3.2m or just a touch under $US3m). The transporter was made famous thanks to the Corgi scale model of it. After this incredible result, this Commer TS3 has become "the most valuable commercial vehicle ever sold at auction." Big call!
