Steve McQueen's GT40

Feel like picking up a bit of motoring history from a Hollywood legend? This actual Le Mans winning GT40 later appeared in the film 'Le Mans' starring Steve McQueen and it's up for auction in August. Thanks to Tom Maynard for sending through the news.

Read on here.

XK Club in The Cotswolds

Suse and I walked Charlie our Great Dane for almost 10 miles through The Cotswolds, before arriving at our evening destination- The Royal Oak in Gretton. I was a little annoyed at being misled into such an epic cross-country trek but after three and a half hours of walking over hills in the mud, I was at least going to enjoy my meal! halfway through dinner, a procession of magnificent classic Jaguar XKs began turning into the car park. You may remember from an older post that an XK140 roadster has a firm place in my fantasy garage. We soon found out the UK chapter of the XK Club were meeting there to celebrate the beginning of their Prescott Hill-climb Weekend. Naturally as soon as dinner was finished we went outside to take in the automotive scenery.

And if these weren't enough, we drove past (yes, I begged for a carriage home) another half-dozen outside a B&B. The Cotswolds were certainly the place for classic car fans on the weekend. I was thoroughly spoilt.

Wanna 'join the club'? You could buy into this world with this stunning XK140 (below) located in Gloucestershire in the UK. Check it out here. I'm starting to get the impression The Cotsworld is the XK capital of the World.

Or this one pictured below which evidently has been slightly pimped with metallic purple-grape coloured duco. It's located in Cheshire in the UK. Check it out here

Lastly, here's Ryan Phillippe's character driving an XK140 in the 1999 film 'Cruel Intentions'. I think it wasn't just me who fell for the 140's lines after seeing this.

Scratch Protection System 2.0

I've just returned from a holiday in The Cotswold's in rural England. There were so many sights but one of the best of all was this Jaguar XF in Painswick with what can only be described as a DIY dint deflector. It made my day to see it.

Cars From My Travels IV

This beautiful Mercedes Benz 230se was parked on Rathbone Place in London yesterday. It seems all the Brits are getting their classics out of the garage and cleaning them up for Summer so it's lovely to have the chance to snap some.

This model represents pretty good value if you want a nice, entry-level, reliable classic. Although in searching for some for sale, there's slim-picking. Maybe this is a good sign for current owners!

Recession Conundrum

What do we have here? Being rich enough to own an Aston Martin, but being poor enough to have pawn it. Check out this article from the Telegraph.

Pride of Ownership

How I would have loved to have seen the final 5 minutes of this car's journey. Some people do want to get that last little bit of tread out of their tyres, don't they? I found this gem near my house. Note the stack of infringement notices and fines under the left windscreen wiper.

Cars from my travels PT3

Check out this Mercedes Benz 280SE (I incorrectly labelled it as a 230SE but my Merc-fan friend from Oz set me straight) parked on Charlotte Street, London today. It looks magnificent and is turning every head that walks past.

And to jog your memory, this is the same type of car featured by the four lads in the Hangover.

Want to buy one of the actual MB 220SEs used in the Hangover (pictured below)?

And of course, let's not forget Hugh Grant's character's in Bridget Jones's Diary.
