Car Pooling

What is it with people turning cars into pools?! I heard from a customer at A.A.Blatch that they enjoyed reading about the Cadillac Biarritz "Hot-tub Caddy" pictured below.

So here's a story about a couple of young American engineering students who've turned a '69 Cadillac Coupe DeVille into a pool on wheels. You might be thinking what I am. Some people have too much time and too much money. Click here to read about their project.

And while we're on on the topic of making car pools:

They're doing it right...

Aaaaaaand they're doing it wrong...

Lowriding with Jay Leno

Want to swap lives with Jay Leno? I do. Click here to check out his 27-litre Bentley.

Jaguar: From C-Type to F-Type

Here's one for the Jaguar fans. What's the old joke I always hear? "Did you know Jags come with 6 stereo speakers? Yep, 2 in the front, 2 in the back and 2 underneath the car for the mechanic."

Holden Hands

Check out this incredible time-warp Holden EK Station Wagon for auction at the 2014 Shannon's Melbourne Winter Auction. It has a guide price of $28k-$34k and has only had two owners since new. I think this would fit in nicely at the Parkes Elvis Festival with all the other 50s and 60s cars. Check out the full listing here.

Mantra Surf Wagon

This photo of a surf wagon was taken by Warren Blatch on holiday last week in Queensland.

Reminds me of the jingle...where else but Queensland?

Queen Elizabeth and an ode to Land Rover

Prince Charles is famously fanatical about Astons and Bentley, William and Harry love their Audis but Queen Elizabeth II is a huge and loyal Land Rover fan. Here is a few pics to demonstrate the Royal family's devotion to the marque.

Her Majesty behind the wheel of her L322 Rangie at Royal Windsor Horse Show.

Note the dog bonnet ornament highlighting another of her passions.

Below: the Duke chilling in his Land Rover Freelander. I know, right? He can have any car in the world and he chooses Land Rover's answer to a Rav4.

Don't worry, Prince William makes up for it with the young Windsors' epic 2013 Range Rover Vogue.

Black is a tough colour to keep clean...

The Duchess of Cambridge AKA K_Middy driving around in the Rangie with Pippa 'P_Middy' Middleton.

Here's Wills and Kate in a Landrover Disco 3 or 4.

The Queen in one of her beloved Defenders.

And below: proof that the House of Windsor's love affair with the Landy is a long and loyal one. Vintage Queen with vintage Land Rover.

A middle-aged Monarch on safari with a 'Classic' 3-door Rangie in Namibia in 1970.

The Duke modelling a classic late 80s model.

Prince Charles in other classic Rangie. At first I thought it was the same as above but has the push out front quarter window and vinyl roof.

The Queen hangin' with her peeps and a second generation Range Rover.

This looks like a custom-built landaulet version of a first generation Range Rover.

Jay Leno's 1930 Bentley 27-litre

Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3

My latest crush is the MB 300SEL 6.3. It was Merc's answer to a muscle car when it was released in 1968 at the Geneva Motor Show. It took the normal 6 cylinder S-Class and dropped the 6.3-litre engine out of the 600 Grosser limousine. The two-tonne beast could sit on over 200kmh with 5 passengers. Awesome considering that was the 60s. Here's a video of a 300SEL 6.3 on the track.

I think I'll need to update my dream garage to house both a 600 Grosser and a 300SEL 6.3.

Here's a gushing page about classic big Benzes including the Grosser 600 and my fantasy car collection.

2015 Ford Mustang 50th Anniversary Edition

This is the limited edition 50th Anniversary model. 1964 models will be created only and come in two colours, Wimbeldon white (pictured) or Kona Blue. It is fitted with a naturally aspirated V8 engine producing 420bhp. Wow. It is even more incredible when you consider these vehicles are a fraction of the cost (in the US) of their performance-related European rivals.

As an aside, I really like Ford America's marketing tagline for their Mustang range: "It's interesting how quickly want becomes need." I think that sums up the feeling for most. Check out the range here.

Jeep Wrangler Kid's Bed

I say kid's bed but I'd happily drive this to sleep. Buy one on Etsy here.

BMW 9 Series Concept

I'll take two, thanks. This model pictured is The Exquisite Gran Lusso concept and BMW hopes to take lots of ideas from this and pack it into a new Rolls Royce Ghost/ Mercedes Mayback beating super limousine aimed at the emerging super minted Russians and Chinese. Maybe I should just take one of these coupes and then wait until the 9 Series is realised and buy one of those. His and Hers, perhaps?

Shannons 2014 Melbourne Autumn auction

There are some beautiful examples up for auction at Shannon's Autumn sale on the 5th May, 2014. Check out the catalogue here.

Below are just a few of my favourites: 1972 Holden HQ V8 Ute

1965 Cadillac DeVille Convertible

1966 Ford Mustang GT Convertible

1971 Aston Martin DBS V8 Coupe

Honda Hands

You've got to hand it to Honda. They love a fun commercial.

My all-time favourite Honda ad is still The Impossible Dream. Enjoy.

Bentley's SUV Tease

This is the publicity pic from Bentley to tease their new SUV type vehicle. You may remember my rant about bentley's crazy ugly 4WD concept pictured below. I am champing at the bit to know if they've finessed their original idea. Either that or they're hoping people only ever see it in a cloud of dust like above.

Brabus 800 iBusiness Mercedes-Benz G65 AMG

Based on the M-B G65, it features a ^.0L V12 twin turbo engine, producing 800hp. Inside it is kitted out with Mac Mini, Apple TV, an iPad and an iPod touch, all integrated into the entertainment system controlled by an iPhone app. It's been entirely refitted in fine leather and Alcantara, with articulating rear seats and an integrated high-speed modem and WLAN so you can do business from the road.

What sort of business would that be? That's right, the buying and selling of drugs...business. For someone dodgy, they're certainly going to leave an equally impressive digital footprint in this. Get your alibi ready...

Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz For Sale

I'm speechless. Just when I thought this Caddy couldn't get any more amazing/ zany/ thunderbirds/ mental, I saw the photo with the hot tub. I think it would be amazing for that one moment when you can show all your mates and have a huge laugh. But to own it, drive it and try and park it? No thanks. For AUS$24k, this one could be yours. I've tried researching this one-off vehicle but am coming up with nothing. If anyone has any more info on this custom car, please leave a comment below.

UPDATE 03/02/2014: Shannon's have now uploaded information on the car. It seems it was a Texas registered car until it came to Oz in the 80s or 90s before being reconditioned in 1999.
